As long as stories have been told, there has been a picture to go with it. Whatever form that picture takes, whether in our minds, on a wall, on paper or in sculpture, images provide a powerful response and help illuminate the words from which they arise. The new exhibition ‘Illuminating the Word’ explores the many aspects of illustrations, from their beauty, extensive range and forms and techniques of creating them. The exhibition explores the power behind illustrations to illuminate a story, often telling a story just as powerfully as words can. See works by illustrators Patsy Bush, Michelle Conn, Francine Olge, Craig Smith, Anne Spudvilas and many other contributing artists, from school students to professional book illustrators. We welcome you to the official launch of Illuminating the Word on Sunday September 29th, 2-4pm at the Queenscliffe Neighbourhood House. The exhibition runs from September 28th to October.27th 2024. In proud support of the Queenscliff Literary Festival. Join Craig Smith in his workshop Drawing a Story on Sunday October 20th at the Queenscliff Neighbourhood House. 11.30am-1pm. According to Jocelyn Adam, Chair of the House Gallery: ‘the QNH is such a vibrant place during term times, and rather than lose momentum and close in the lead up to Christmas and during the summer holidays, we have mounted our own work so that visitors get an insight into some of the House Gallery’s substantial offerings’. Between us we are exhibiting an eclectic array of artwork to tempt you for Christmas shopping or as a memento of holidays on the Bellarine Peninsula. Each of the works are influenced by the title of this exhibition. They are meaningful to the artist and hopefully meaningful to visitors to this quintessentially local seaside Neighbourhood gallery. Do come by and have a look’. The five artists include: Jocelyn Adam– is a well known local painter who works mainly in oil creating ethereal landscapes, seascapes and still life paintings. Anita Armytage – is an enthusiastic artist and teacher who produces vibrant collages with great skill and ingenuity. Janet Leckie - a textile artist, reflects upon growing up on a Soldier Settlement block in Western Victoria and has produced a collection of stitched images of that era. Julie Morgan – enjoys exploring the versatility and fluidity of watercolour through the depiction of everyday objects, still life and landscapes. Tracy Watt - captures the natural environment and disappearing history of Point Lonsdale with evocative pencil drawings and watercolour.
